Job Summary

The Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Administrative Support Officer to join the Obesity Department. This role requires the post holder to provide efficient and comprehensive administrative support to the department, ensuring that work is prioritized according to the ever-changing demands of the service.

Main Duties

This post requires the post holder to provide administrative duties to support the overall effective running of the Obesity department. This includes providing an excellent standard of typing support to the Obesity team, undertaking data input duties, and ensuring computerized records are kept up to date and accurate at all times.

About the Role

The Obesity Service is a busy Outpatient department located in the new Outpatient Centre, near the main hospital site. The post holder will be responsible for providing administrative support to the department, including typing and checking of letters at speed from dictation, and other tasks associated with the production and circulation of clinical correspondence.

Person Specification

Essential

  • English Qualification, preferably GCE/GCSE standard
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Typing in an office-based environment

Desirable

  • Typing Qualification (LCC, RSA or similar)
  • NHS admin experience
  • Understanding of the NHS and medical terminology

Key Skills

  • Data entry
  • Report and minute taking

Working Arrangements

The post holder will be required to work on their own initiative, dealing with all aspects of the work and referring to colleagues when necessary in relation to issues outside of their area of expertise. The role will also require the ability to work as part of a team and to develop a wider knowledge of the service in order to facilitate patient queries via email/telephone.

Confidentiality

The post holder will be required to observe strict confidentiality in all matters concerning patients and visitors.

Health and Safety

The post holder will be required to be aware of Departmental Health and Safety requirements.
