Role Description: We are seeking a passionate and creative SEN Art Teacher to join our dynamic team at an innovative and inclusive secondary school in Hackney. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in inspiring and supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) through the medium of art, helping them to express themselves, develop their creative skills, and build confidence.
About the School: Our school has a strong reputation for inclusivity, creativity, and academic excellence. We are renowned for our commitment to providing a holistic education for all students, including those with special educational needs. Our school is passionate about delivering a curriculum that is both innovative and tailored to meet the individual needs of our students, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Responsibilities: As an SEN Art Teacher, you will be responsible for:
- Planning, preparing, and delivering creative and engaging art lessons tailored to meet the needs of SEN students, ensuring that all learners can access the curriculum and develop their artistic skills.
- Working closely with the SEN department to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), adapting lesson plans and teaching techniques to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Using a range of inclusive teaching strategies, including visual aids, hands-on activities, and sensory learning tools, to create lessons that are accessible and enjoyable for all students.
- Fostering an environment of creativity, encouraging students to express themselves through art, while developing their confidence, self-esteem, and social skills.
- Providing ongoing assessment and feedback, tracking student progress, and ensuring that their artistic and personal development is nurtured.
Requirements: To be considered for this role, you will need:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a specialization in Art or a related subject.
- Experience working with special educational needs students, preferably in a secondary school setting, with a proven ability to differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of needs.
- A passion for inclusive education and the ability to engage and inspire students through art, tailoring lessons to suit their individual learning styles and abilities.
- Strong understanding of SEN teaching strategies, with experience in using visual aids, sensory tools, and other assistive technologies to enhance student engagement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and external agencies.
- A positive, patient, and creative approach to teaching, with the flexibility to adapt to the varying needs of SEN students.
- A clear DBS check and the legal right to work in the UK.
What We Offer: We offer a highly supportive environment for teachers, particularly those working in the SEN department. New staff members are provided with an extensive induction program and ongoing mentorship from experienced colleagues. Our school's leadership team is committed to staff development, offering regular training opportunities and encouraging teachers to take on leadership roles within the SEN department or other areas of the school.
