Position Overview

Behavioural Support Specialist – Complex Care Services/Supported Living

Compensation: £42,000 with an additional £3,000 vehicle allowance.

Aspirations Care Ltd is seeking a skilled Behavioural Support Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct referral evaluations as necessary to assist operational teams.
  • Collaborate with both internal and external professionals (e.g., Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Social Workers, and Mental Health Nurses) to uphold the rights of individuals we support.
  • Execute the comprehensive process for creating Behavioural Support Plans, including both direct and indirect assessments.
  • Assess the effectiveness of Behavioural Support Plans through positive monitoring techniques.
  • Facilitate transition programs for individuals moving into new living arrangements, utilizing appropriate documentation.
  • In collaboration with the leadership team and support staff, develop and continually review Behavioural Support Plans tailored to the needs of service users.
  • Champion the Restraint Reduction Training Standards by demonstrating our commitment to the rights of individuals experiencing distress and minimizing restrictive practices.
  • Foster a shared understanding of behaviour functions and create strategies that assist individuals in developing alternative communication methods.
  • Ensure timely collection, analysis, and review of outcome data related to distress communication incidents.
  • Deliver Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions to teams as needed.
  • Work in conjunction with other business support departments to enhance the quality of services provided.
  • Encourage and contribute to the development of a reflective organizational culture that learns from experiences to improve outcomes for those we support.
  • Support co-production by involving individuals in their care and support processes.
  • Exhibit excellent organizational skills to manage a caseload and effectively plan interventions, coaching, and liaison amidst unpredictable demands.
  • Demonstrate leadership by setting an example and occasionally working alongside staff to implement strategies as appropriate.
  • Conduct workshops.
  • Possess qualifications or a willingness to pursue CPI Safety Intervention Instructor certification.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience in providing support utilizing the Positive Behaviour Support framework.
  • Possess a valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle (vehicle allowance included).
  • Willingness to travel regularly for service visits and meetings.
  • Person-centered beliefs, values, and attitudes.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a leadership role, positively influencing others.
  • In-depth understanding of Positive Behaviour Support principles and Applied Behaviour Analysis.
  • Experience in conducting behavioural assessments and developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions.
  • Background in direct support for individuals with learning disabilities and/or Autism, including behaviours of concern.
  • Proven track record in reducing restrictive practices.
  • Experience in delivering Positive Behaviour Support training.
  • Strong record-keeping and writing skills, including report writing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant legal frameworks and policies, including the Mental Capacity Act (2005), DOLS, and safeguarding protocols.
  • Integrity and resilience to provide optimal services to individuals in our care.
  • Ability to identify strategies that minimize or prevent restrictive practices.
  • Capacity to overcome challenges and embrace opportunities for creative problem-solving.
  • Formal qualifications in Positive Behaviour Support or related fields (e.g., BSc in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis, or equivalent).
