Industrial Placement Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Engineer to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) for a 12-month industrial placement.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the current portfolio of deformation rigs available at ENGIN-X, performing a market survey of available options, and producing a list of specs and requirements for the upgradability of the system with ancillary characterization techniques.
Key Responsibilities- Become familiar with the experimental setups and requirements of typical imaging and diffraction experiments
- Assess the status of the current portfolio of deformation rigs available at ENGIN-X
- Perform a market survey of available options
- Produce a list of specs and requirements, considering the upgradability of the system with ancillary characterization techniques
- Together with relevant stakeholders, make a plan of targeted hardware acquisitions to maximize scientific output
- Perform a conceptual design of the identified solution(s) in collaboration with stakeholders
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies after the placement
- Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
- Right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
- Able to commence employment in summer 2025
- Good understanding of properties of metals and mechanical engineering
- Familiarity with mechanical loading tests of materials
- Interest in (non-destructive) testing methods
- Good communication skills for collaboration with stakeholders
