Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our Mental Health team at Derwentside IRC, a female Immigration Removal Centre in the North East of England.

This is a brand new role, created due to the growth of our Psychology department, offering a unique opportunity for a motivated and experienced professional to make a real difference in the lives of our patients.

As an Assistant Psychologist, you will work closely with our onsite Psychologist and a close-knit mental health team to provide high-quality psychological care and support to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of the qualified psychologist
  • Support the psychological care of patients throughout their journey, from reception to release planning
  • Work with people with complex needs, which can present challenging situations or behaviors
  • Contribute to the Assessment Care in Custody Teamwork (ACCT) process and the Challenge, Support and Intervention Plan (CSIP)
  • Monitor and provide feedback on patients' function and general mental health condition during the course of intervention
  • Carry out clinically related administrative tasks, including audits, statistics, and research projects

Requirements

  • Hold a Degree in Psychology
  • Although not essential, a Masters Degree would be beneficial
  • Have experience within a paid Assistant Psychologist role, whether in a prison, community setting, or psychiatric environment
  • Be experienced in facilitating patient therapeutic groups and delivering psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention in the structure of an evidence-based therapeutic model (CBT/CFT/DBT)
