Aerospace Machining Research Lead

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Machining Research Engineer to lead technical work and budgeting, schedule and risk in the product lifecycle, progressing research activities in the TRL1-6 range. This role requires the ability to translate complex engineering principles to a wide audience, achieving tasks and long-term goals through others.
The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with academic partners to tackle technical challenges, supporting Work Stream leads and Project Managers in advancing TRL for metallic manufacturing technologies. They will prepare technology development plans and business cases, maintain and update project plans, ensuring progress towards deliverables and milestones.
This role also involves visiting ecosystem partners to discuss, agree on project work, and check progress. The candidate will operate equipment for experimentation and analysis, contribute to multi-year planning and funding proposals, perform technical work, maintain detailed records, analyze data, and create technical reports.
To succeed in this role, you will require hands-on experience in machining and one or more core metallic manufacturing technologies such as forming, metallic additive manufacturing. You should have experience of planning and managing research projects and budgets of £50k+, technical report writing, and a higher degree qualification such as a Masters, PhD, or EngD.
