Job Overview

The North Middlesex University Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced physiotherapist to join our acute inpatient physiotherapy service. As a rotational physiotherapist, you will have the opportunity to develop both clinical and managerial skills while working in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • To perform highly specialized physiotherapy assessments and develop treatment and management programs for patients with acute and chronic conditions, maintaining accurate records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To participate in the education and training of staff-grade physiotherapists, technicians, assistants, students, and other healthcare professionals.
  • To deputize for the team leader physiotherapist in their absence.
  • To participate in the 7-day service rota.
  • To participate in the emergency on-call respiratory rota.
  • To complete rotations in acute stroke, admission avoidance, critical care/respiratory, medical, oncology, elderly care, orthopedics, and pediatrics.
  • To supervise band 5s, therapy assistants, and students.
  • To participate in the audit and research process, quality improvement.
  • To work in an integrated manner with occupational therapists to improve patient care.

In addition to a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on-site and provides services to support cancer patients' well-being.

We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield, ensuring they receive the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who deliver the national Healthy Child Programme, providing a structured framework for key interventions to support the health and well-being of children and families from 0 to 5 and school-aged children from 5-19.

Key Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in physiotherapy.
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
  • Experience across a range of NHS sectors, including primary, secondary, and community services.
  • Experience of writing and delivering in-service training programs.
  • Experience of supervising non-qualified staff, including participation in personal development reviews.
  • Experience of discharge planning.
  • Experience of completing basic functional assessments.
Personal Qualities
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of current NHS initiatives.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and its application to physiotherapy services.
  • Knowledge of physiotherapy professional issues.
  • Knowledge of a variety of physiotherapy interventions that can be used to benefit various patient groups and current best practice.
  • Knowledge of pathologies and the current medical management of commonly occurring conditions for hospital-based and community patients.
  • Knowledge of other medical conditions that may be encountered, including but not exclusively, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of outcome measure tools.
  • Knowledge of the audit cycle and its uses.
