About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary team at Newcastle University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in contemporary technologically-mediated musical or sonic arts practice and a demonstrated ability to theorize their work to a high research standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and collaborate on the role of music/sonic arts practice and relevant aesthetics in the design and execution of data sonification
  • Disseminate project results through journal articles, conference presentations, and public-facing media
  • Work closely with team members to design new experimental platforms for intangible phenomena
  • Collect, analyze, and critically reflect on data from ongoing studies and platforms to drive the project forward
  • Publish world-leading research in collaboration with the team
  • Present research outputs to scientific and non-scientific audiences
  • Contribute to the positive culture and general strengths of the team
Requirements
  • Demonstrable ability to lead in the design, organization, and running of experiments, interviews, focus groups, and related activities
  • Strong working knowledge of methods and techniques suitable for research in the area of contemporary musical/sonic art aesthetics
  • Familiarity with methods and techniques in data sonification and auditory display
  • Track record of disseminating research through appropriate channels
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary working
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
