About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our Sonic Intangibles project, a two-year interdisciplinary initiative that aims to bring intangible phenomena into our audible experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and collaborate on the role of music/sonic arts practice and relevant aesthetics in the design and execution of data sonification
  • Disseminate project results through journal articles, conference presentations, and public-facing media
  • Work closely with team members to design new experimental platforms for intangible phenomena
  • Collect, analyze, and critically reflect on data from ongoing studies and platforms to drive the project forward
  • Contribute to the publication of world-leading research in an interdisciplinary team
  • Present research outputs to scientific and non-scientific audiences
  • Participate in outreach and initiatives to promote Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
Requirements
  • Demonstrable ability to lead experiments, interviews, and focus groups
  • Strong working knowledge of methods and techniques in contemporary musical/sonic art aesthetics
  • Familiarity with data sonification and auditory display methods
  • Track record of disseminating research through journals, conferences, and professional-level performance venues
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary working
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Desirable Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of ethnographic and self-reflective methods for evaluating research practice
  • Familiarity with common technologies and platforms such as Pd, Max/MSP, SuperCollider, Ableton, Python, etc
  • Experience working on research projects, including planning and conducting studies and leading data analysis
  • Track record of professional or professional-level work in contemporary technologically-mediated music or sonic arts practice
