Job Summary

The Overseas Visitors Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for international patients, ensuring that maximum revenue is recovered for the Trust through a combination of direct patient interaction, daily reports, and collaboration with other staff members. The successful candidate will be responsible for determining the eligibility of patients suspected of not being entitled to free NHS care, establishing the cost of planned treatment, and collecting payments when possible in advance.

Main Responsibilities
  • Implement NHS Charging Regulations and procedures related to income, ensuring they align with current and new legislation.
  • Provide guidance to staff and patients on the interpretation and implementation of Department of Health Guidance and Trust Policy on overseas visitors.
  • Identify overseas visitors not eligible for NHS treatment and maximize overseas patients' income.
  • Ensure accurate recording, costing, and billing of all activity in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Interview, assess, and identify whether a patient's claim for free NHS treatment is valid based on the latest guidance and comprehensively manage the case to ensure funds are recovered in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with outside agencies, such as Border Control and the Department of Health.
  • Participate in training staff throughout the Trust, ensuring awareness and understanding of overseas patients and visitors issues.
  • Develop and maintain a robust office filing system, exploring alternative storage, retrieval, and archiving systems.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as requested by the Overseas Visitors Manager.
About the Role

The Overseas Visitors Officer will work closely with the Overseas Visitors Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the overseas patient service. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, ensuring timely and accurate invoice requests, and collecting payments from overseas visitors. They will also be responsible for providing guidance to staff and patients on the interpretation and implementation of Department of Health Guidance and Trust Policy on overseas visitors.

Requirements
  • ECDL/ RSAII/OCR Advanced Text Processing (Modules: Text Production/Word Processing) or knowledge of Word Processing or equivalent.
  • HND or equivalent.
  • Substantial experience of administration procedures, including receiving, collating, and updating numerous documents and logs.
  • Experience of working in a programme/project environment.
  • Ability to comment on proposals for change in own work area.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to use different styles of communication at all levels, and ability to deliver training.
