About the Role

At The Literacy Pirates, we are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Volunteer Crewmate. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing direct support to children aged 9-13 who are struggling with their reading and writing skills.

We take pride in developing the literacy, confidence, and perseverance of our young participants through our year-long after-school program. Our approach is focused on creating a safe and engaging environment that fosters a love for learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to children to help them improve their reading and writing skills.
  • Work closely with our staff team to lead and manage sessions, ensuring a smooth and productive experience for all participants.
  • Help children develop their confidence and self-esteem through positive reinforcement and encouragement.
Requirements
  • Aged 16+
  • UK resident, able to commute to our Hackney location
  • Complete a DBS check (covered by us)

We offer a competitive estimated salary of £12-15 per hour, depending on experience, and a range of benefits including employment references, work placements, and Tempo Time Credits.

Estimated salary: £24,000 - £30,000 per annum.
