Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Operating Department Practitioner to join our Maternity Theatre team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the smooth operation of our theatres.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical assessment and prioritise patient care in the operating theatre environment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to ensure effective understanding and delivery of care.
  • Contribute to the development of patient care within the operating theatres, sharing knowledge and expertise as required.
  • Prepare and organise the clinical area to receive patients for elective and emergency procedures.
  • Identify, prepare, check, and assemble equipment required for the operating list.
  • Adhere to the NMC/ODP professional Code of Conduct and maintain high standards of practice.

Person Specification
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HPC registration.
  • 3 years' experience in Maternity Theatres or 3 years' experience in Gynaecology, GI, Vascular, or Urology Theatres.
  • Teaching qualification and/or practice assessor/mentor experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
  • Demonstrate awareness of current issues in Maternity Services and Maternity Theatres within the NHS.
  • Demonstrate a professional approach to patient care and ability to work autonomously and as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Good written, communication, and listening skills, with ability to organise and prioritise workload.
