Inverness, Highland, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Scotland is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, eliminating unlawful discrimination, and promoting equality of opportunity. The organization aims to create an environment where each employee feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated midwife/obstetric sonographer to join our team of midwife sonographers at the obstetric ultrasound department/fetal medicine unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Raigmore Hospital provides comprehensive midwifery, obstetric, and neonatal care to pregnant women and their families residing in the Scottish Highlands. The hospital serves a vast rural area of 12,500 square miles, with approximately 1,800 births annually.

Our team of six midwife sonographers conducts approximately 11,000 scans per year. We are an independent and progressive team with a high degree of sonographer autonomy, prioritizing quality assurance, peer review, and audit to maintain exceptional professional standards.

The sonographers are fully supported by our ultrasound lead. We perform all obstetric examinations, including the new RCOG guidance on MCA PI and UAPI screening for small for gestational age babies. Our main workload also encompasses EPAU, fetal medicine, maternal medicine, twins, and specialist ANC's, including our screening pathway scans and general obstetric growth scans, utilizing GROW.

In the Obstetric Ultrasound Department, we utilize a range of high-spec ultrasound equipment, including 7 Voluson E10 machines.

You will be a qualified midwife or possess a relevant degree-level qualification, followed by a PGC minimum in obstetric ultrasound. You must be up-to-date in your practice, willing to undertake audit, teaching, and mentorship when required. The post holder will be expected to work independently and produce diagnostic reports that provide accurate clinical findings.

This is a full-time position, with part-time hours potentially considered.

NHS Scotland is committed to providing a positive work environment, supported by our NHS and Social Care values: Care and compassion, Dignity and respect, Openness, honesty, and responsibility, and Quality and teamwork.

NHS Scotland is reducing its full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024, with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff.
