We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Clinical Microbiology team at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for processing clinical specimens for microbiological testing and interpreting the results of laboratory tests and diagnostic processes.
Key Responsibilities- Process clinical specimens for microbiological testing, including bacteriology, mycology, serology/virology, and molecular microbiology.
- Interpret the results of laboratory tests and diagnostic processes, providing accurate and timely information to healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.
- Participate in the training and development of junior staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Collaborate with other laboratory teams and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
- Contribute to the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records, including laboratory reports and patient information.
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Minimum one year of experience working in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory.
- Strong knowledge of microbiological testing and diagnostic processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with healthcare professionals and other laboratory staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including weekends and bank holidays, with the ability to participate in the on-call service as required.
The successful candidate will be required to work a core shift pattern, with flexibility to work additional shifts as required. The post will also involve participation in the on-call service, with a 30% pay enhancement for Saturday shifts and a 60% pay enhancement for Sunday and bank holiday shifts.
