Job Summary

Priory Surgery is seeking a skilled Receptionist to provide a comprehensive reception service within the Practice to GPs, health professionals, the general public, and other agencies.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, keyboard, and computer skills, with the ability to triage and navigate patients to an appropriate appointment or service.

The role involves receiving patients and other surgery users, overseeing the main reception area, and ensuring the smooth running of GP sessions and other clinics using computerised systems.

The successful candidate will be a flexible individual with a 'can do' attitude, able to work without direct supervision and determine their own workload priorities.

Main Responsibilities

Provide a comprehensive reception service within the Practice

Triage and navigate patients to an appropriate appointment or service

Receive patients and other surgery users

Oversee the main reception area and ensure the smooth running of GP sessions and other clinics

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 2 GCSE passes or equivalent, including Math and English
  • Excellent keyboard and computer skills
  • Demonstrable communication skills
  • Familiar with the principles of data protection and confidentiality
  • An understanding, acceptance, and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
  • Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, and common sense
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team
  • Pleasant and articulate
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work in a changing environment
  • Flexibility of working hours/able to work at desired times
  • Reliability, punctuality, and good organisation

Desirable

  • Knowledge of EMIS clinical computer systems
  • Understanding of all aspects of H&S

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a receptionist or in a customer service environment

  • An understanding of the day-to-day functions of General Practice
  • Previous experience working in an NHS environment
