This is a float job requiring a clean driving record, with travel through multiple locations. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Specimen Collector to join our team.

Summary: As a Laboratory Specimen Collector, you will be responsible for assisting in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
  2. Updating patient information and collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.
  3. Properly explaining in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
  4. Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  5. Fully understanding all of the physicians' orders.
  6. Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
  7. Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  8. Packaging specimens for transport and storing specimen samples according to required temperature.
  9. Placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling, and following procedures outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
  10. Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  11. Attending annual department trainings and answering telephone calls to read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Requirements:

  1. Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  2. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  4. High School Diploma or GED.
  5. 1-2+ years of experience.
