PhD Studentship in Bioelectronics and Tissue Engineering

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD researcher to join our interdisciplinary team at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project jointly supervised by Prof Róisín M. Owens and Dr Muireann Coen, and will have the opportunity to work across two sites.

Project Overview

The project, entitled "Conformal electronic devices for non-invasive, dynamic monitoring of barrier tissues", spans the fields of bioelectronics, tissue engineering, and drug discovery. The student will develop conformal planar electrodes that can non-invasively sit on tissues without damaging them and generate continuous information on barrier integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and optimize the electrode design to enable collection of spatial information on different parts of a tissue
  • Enhance sensitivity to allow measurement from endothelial tissues
  • Adapt the materials used to enable monitoring from more complex tissue shapes or 3D structures
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in a relevant subject such as biomedical or (bio)chemical engineering. The ideal candidate will have a first or high second-class degree from a UK university, or an equivalent standard from an overseas university.

What We Offer

The position offers full funding covering maintenance fees and the University Composition Fee at the Home rate. The student will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment, and will be supported by a team of experienced researchers and academics.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit their CV and a cover letter outlining their research experience and interests. The application deadline is not specified.
