The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project jointly supervised by Prof Emma Rawlins and Dr Luigi Aloia, and will have the opportunity to work across the two sites.
Project OverviewThe project, entitled 'A reproducible human lung organoid platform for large scale oncology CRISPR screens', aims to develop a human-relevant model for studying lung cancer. The student will work on developing human lung adenocarcinoma from multiple normal biological donors, and will use genetic engineering to test the effects of cancer driver mutations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research in the field of human organoid/cancer biology
- Develop and maintain human lung organoid cultures
- Perform genetic engineering to develop human lung adenocarcinoma from multiple normal biological donors
- Collaborate with the supervisory team to design and implement experiments
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in cell or developmental biology, or biochemistry. The successful candidate will have, or shortly expect to obtain, a first or upper second-class degree from a UK university, or an equivalent standard from an overseas university. The candidate should also have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
What We OfferThe studentship provides full funding covering maintenance fees and the University Composition Fee.
