Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time
Project Overview

The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a PhD student in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project jointly supervised by Prof Hugh Robinson and Dr. Philipe MendonÊ at AstraZeneca, focusing on the emerging field of cancer neuroscience.

Research Objectives

The project aims to understand the mechanisms of electrical signalling in neuroendocrine cancer cells and how ion channels might be targeted to inhibit their metabolism, proliferation, and invasion. The student will use state-of-the-art electrophysiological and imaging techniques to dissect the roles of different ion channels in controlling the electrical properties of NE cancer cells.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a strong background in physiology, biochemistry, biophysics, or pharmacology. The successful candidate should have or expect to obtain a first or upper second-class degree from a UK university or an equivalent standard from an overseas university. The student will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, with close supervision provided by a primary and secondary PhD supervisor.

Funding and Support

The studentship provides full funding covering maintenance fees and the University Composition Fee. The student will also have access to a wide range of training opportunities and benefit from close supervision provided by a primary and secondary PhD supervisor as well as a personal mentor.

Application Process
