AZ Funded Non-Clinical PhD Studentship in Cancer Neuroscience
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student to join our research team at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a collaborative project jointly supervised by Prof Hugh Robinson and Dr Philipe MendonÊ at AstraZeneca.
Project Overview:The project aims to understand the mechanisms of electrical signalling in neuroendocrine cancer cells and how ion channels might be targeted to inhibit the metabolism, proliferation, and invasion of these cells. The student will use state-of-the-art electrophysiological and imaging techniques at AZ and the University of Cambridge to dissect the roles of different ion channels in controlling the electrical properties of NE cancer cells.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct research on ion channels and excitability in neuroendocrine cancer cells
- Develop and implement new experimental techniques to study ion channel function
- Collaborate with the research team to design and execute experiments
- Present research findings at internal and external seminars
- First or upper second-class degree in a relevant subject such as physiology, biochemistry, biophysics, or pharmacology
- Strong background in molecular biology, cell culture, and electrophysiology
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Full funding covering maintenance fees and University Composition Fee
