PhD Studentship in Bioelectronics and Tissue Engineering

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our interdisciplinary research team as a PhD student. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project jointly supervised by Prof Róisín M. Owens and Dr Muireann Coen, and will have the opportunity to work across the University of Cambridge and AstraZeneca.

The project focuses on the development of conformal electronic devices for non-invasive, dynamic monitoring of barrier tissues. This involves the design and optimization of electrodes that can non-invasively sit on tissues without damaging them, and generate continuous information on barrier integrity.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that spans the fields of bioelectronics, tissue engineering, and drug discovery. They will be expected to think and work independently, and to contribute to the development of new technologies and methods.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in a relevant subject such as biomedical or (bio)chemical engineering, or biological sciences. The candidate should have a good understanding of technology development and be able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.

The studentship provides full funding covering maintenance fees and the University Composition Fee at the Home rate. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, with regular attendance at AstraZeneca to integrate with the team and network.

The University actively supports equality, diversity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from all sections of society.
