About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Laboratory Technician to join our team at MiAlgae. As a key member of our Production Team, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient planning and execution of day-to-day tasks within the Production Laboratory.

Your primary focus will be on producing high-quality lab-scale inoculums to meet demands set by the Site Manager and Head of Production. You will work closely with the Production Lab Supervisor to highlight any concerns regarding workload, demands, or issues that require practical support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce lab-scale inoculums to meet production demands
  • Communicate effectively with the Production Lab Supervisor
  • Ensure laboratory upkeep and cleanliness
  • Coordinate with the QC Department for routine contamination testing
  • Work with the production site team to facilitate rolling stock availability of laboratory prepared sterile Demo Site pieces
  • Ensure all activities comply with Health & Safety protocols
  • Report any faulty equipment to the Production Lab Supervisor
  • Investigate and propose ways to improve processes and procedures
  • Conform to stringent standard operating procedures
  • Ensure regular general laboratory upkeep and cleaning tasks
  • Efficiently manage stock control of Lab consumables
  • Contribute to the upkeep and development of Production Lab procedures
  • Facilitate the training of supporting laboratory staff and students
  • Assist other departments with non-standard inoculums or site pieces
  • Support the Production Lab Supervisor and/or Site Manager with additional tasks or projects

About You

We are looking for a driven individual with a flexible approach to work, who can help meet a growing demand and provide holiday/absence cover. You will be an organized person with the ability to forecast ahead and efficiently plan laboratory output requirements.

You will have a proven record for time management, communication, and organization skills, with the ability to run a fast-paced production laboratory through careful planning with inbuilt flexibility and adaptability.

You should have basic knowledge of quality principles (ISO9001, ISO14001, GMP, and HACCP) and be able to enforce established production and quality processes within the laboratory.

You will have a keen eye for detail within documentation and enjoy aspects of quality control and process improvement.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working within a fast-paced production environment
  • Relevant industrial experience (preferred) or collaborative industry-led process experience
  • Full, clean driving license
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Experience of writing and reviewing SOPS, COSHH, and risk assessments
  • Experience of training/mentoring junior staff and/or students
  • Knowledge of quality control principles
  • Knowledge of quality management principles
