Detailed Job Description

The Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join our team. As a key member of our medical staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical teams, and contributing to the development of our respiratory medicine services.

Main Responsibilities

As a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert clinical care to patients with respiratory conditions, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic and acute respiratory diseases.
  • Leading and managing clinical teams, including junior doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure high-quality patient care and effective service delivery.
  • Developing and implementing clinical guidelines, protocols, and policies to improve patient outcomes and service efficiency.
  • Participating in education and training programs for healthcare professionals, including medical students, junior doctors, and other staff members.
  • Contributing to the development of our respiratory medicine services, including service redesign, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • MRCP (UK) or an equivalent qualification.
  • SCE in respiratory medicine.
  • GMC Registration.
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for both Respiratory and General Internal Medicine via one of the following: a) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).

Essential Criteria

  • Satisfactory training in and General Internal Medicine.
  • Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Ability and Knowledge

  • Wide knowledge of Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. Able to give expert opinion.

Clinical Skills and Technical Skills

  • Independent Bronchoscopy and pleural skills including ultrasound.

Desirable Criteria

  • EBUS or thoracoscopy.
