Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and qualified individual to lead multiple audit teams in the delivery of high-quality financial audits across various public sector clients. As an External Audit Director, you will be responsible for providing effective leadership, building capacity and resilience in the team, and motivating staff to achieve their full potential.

The role involves delivering reports and other outputs at the highest client and stakeholder level, including presentations to the Scottish Parliament and local audit committees. You will also develop and maintain relationships with key staff at the highest levels within clients and stakeholder organisations.

In addition, you will undertake significant risk-based decision making, using your judgement about the quantity and depth of research, investigation and auditing required. You will also ensure that work is properly resourced in terms of people, abilities and knowledge, and communicate this to the team.

A key requirement for this role is the ability to constructively challenge team judgement and add value from a strategic perspective. You will also have responsibility for quality and accountability for signing off audit work.

Estimated Salary: £80,000 - £110,000 per annum

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, ICAS, or equivalent)
  • Practical experience of managing high-quality external audits, preferably in a public sector environment
  • Strong understanding of the important issues and risks facing public sector clients
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders
