Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic qualified clinical/counselling psychologist to join our Specialist Adult Inpatient Palliative Care Service at St George's Hospital. The post offers excellent experience and the chance to be part of a well-established comprehensive Specialist Palliative Care within a large teaching hospital.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will provide specialist clinical/counselling psychology services for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their relatives in the care of the hospital palliative care service. You will be liaising with members of the multi-disciplinary palliative care team based at St George's Hospital and other healthcare professionals. The post involves direct clinical work with patients and relatives, as well as clinical supervision of other team members. A commitment to team working and creative problem-solving is essential.

About the Service

Our Specialist Adult Inpatient Palliative Care Service provides comprehensive care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. We work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible care for our patients. The service is part of a larger teaching hospital with excellent links to St George's Hospital Medical School and the University of Surrey.

Requirements

  • Doctoral level qualification in clinical/counselling psychology or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996
  • Registration with the HCPC as a clinical psychologist or counselling psychologist
  • Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience of working in a clinical setting, with at least 12 months in a clinical health psychology speciality
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of ward-based working, ideally within an acute physical health setting
  • Experience of psychological work with people approaching end of life and/or experiencing bereavement
