Key Responsibilities:

  • Menu Planning and Execution: Create and execute a menu that follows nutritional guidelines and meets the specific needs of young children, taking into account their age, dietary requirements, and preferences.
  • Meal Preparation and Service: Prepare meals for up to 50 children daily, including breakfast, lunch, and late afternoon tea, ensuring all meals are prepared and served in a safe and hygienic manner.
  • Kitchen Management: Manage the kitchen, including menu planning, budgeting, and ordering food supplies, to ensure efficient and effective operation.
  • Cleanliness and Food Safety: Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety in the kitchen, adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Engagement and Collaboration: Engage with children during cooking sessions, allowing them to have hands-on experience with food preparation, and work closely with nursery staff to accommodate special dietary requirements and allergies.

Requirements:

  • Culinary Experience: Previous experience in a similar cooking role, ideally within a nursery or care home setting, with a strong understanding of safe food handling and hygiene practices.
  • Menu Planning and Organization: Ability to plan menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to young children, with excellent organizational skills to manage the kitchen efficiently.
  • Creativity and Adaptability: Creative and adaptable to accommodate different dietary needs and preferences, with a valid Food Hygiene certificate at minimum level 2 and an enhanced DBS check.
