Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join our team at Aspion, a leading transport business specializing in Abnormal Loads and General haulage.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the current transport operation in the management of compliance and planning.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plan heavy haulage operations manually, ensuring all logistical details are accounted for.
  • Provide communication links between customers and drivers.
  • Supervise and manage driver workloads.
  • Ensure compliance with tachograph regulations and monitor drivers' daily activities in line with the Working Time Directive and driving hours.
  • Coordinate with councils, police, and drivers to organize special orders requiring police escorts.
  • Plan operations up to 2 weeks in advance, ensuring the availability of police escorts and other required resources.
  • Keep up-to-date with transport issues and deal with changes to the day's schedules.
  • Pre-brief and de-brief drivers on their daily runs throughout the day.
  • Manage high-value and complex heavy haulage projects, ensuring all logistics are handled professionally and safely.

Requirements

  • Transport route planning experience.
  • Previous experience of working in a General Haulage or Abnormal Loads operation.
  • Experience of working within a busy transport office.
  • Dynamic approach to solving resource and planning resolution/modifications.
  • ICT literate.
  • Basic understanding of Large Goods Vehicles (weights, dimensions, and terminology).
  • Proficient in the use of tachographs and TMS (Transport Management Systems).
  • Good geographic knowledge.
  • Proactive approach to continual professional development.
  • Excellent team player, able to work on own initiative and make decisions.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to focus, while contributing to a collaborative and positive team dynamic.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Ability to question, challenge, and improve upon existing processes.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of £30,000 - £35,000 (dependent on experience) and opportunities for professional growth and development.
