Abnormal Loads Planner

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Planning heavy haulage operations manually, ensuring all logistical details are accounted for.
- Providing communication links between customers and drivers.
- Supervising and managing driver workloads.
- Ensuring compliance with tachograph regulations and monitoring drivers' daily activities in line with the Working Time Directive and driving hours.
- Coordinating with councils, police, and drivers to organize special orders requiring police escorts.
- Planning operations up to 2 weeks in advance, ensuring the availability of police escorts and other required resources.
- Keeping up-to-date with transport issues and dealing with changes to the day's schedules.
- Pre-briefing and de-briefing drivers on their daily runs throughout the day.
- Managing high-value and complex heavy haulage projects, ensuring all logistics are handled professionally and safely.
About the Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner who has:
- Transport route planning experience.
- Previous experience of working in a General Haulage or Abnormal Loads operation.
- Experience of working within a busy transport office.
- A dynamic approach to solving resource and planning resolution/modifications.
- ICT literacy.
- A basic understanding of Large Goods Vehicles (weights, dimensions, and terminology).
- Proficiency in the use of tachographs and TMS (Transport Management Systems).
- Good geographic knowledge.
- A proactive approach to continual professional development.
- An excellent team player, able to work on own initiative and make decisions.
- A strong work ethic with the ability to focus, while contributing to a collaborative and positive team dynamic.
- An effective communicator.
- The ability to question, challenge, and improve upon existing processes.
What We Offer
We offer a competitive salary of £30,000 - £35,000 (dependent on experience) and opportunities for professional growth and development.
