PhD Researcher in Nuclear Heritage

The Digital Preservation Coalition seeks a PhD Researcher to join our team in evaluating nuclear heritage and developing practical approaches to a complex industrial landscape.
The successful candidate will explore the various ways that heritage values can be applied to the nuclear industry and translate this knowledge into policy.
This project aligns closely with the company's goals of preserving and promoting cultural heritage, and the researcher will benefit from the combined expertise of specialists from archaeology/heritage and physics.
The PhD study will develop and promote key skills required to help the company carry out its mission over the coming decades and encourage knowledge transfer between academic and industrial communities working on nuclear decommissioning.
Outputs from the project will include accessible and practical heritage guidelines for company staff alongside academic and publicly accessible outputs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct site visits and archival research to define social and knowledge-based values.
- Contribute to informed decisions about the future of the nuclear estate.
- Promote and enhance public understanding of the significance of the UK's nuclear heritage.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in heritage policy and management, industrial heritage assessment and preservation, and nuclear decommissioning.
They will also have excellent communication and project management skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
