**Role Overview**

We are seeking a highly skilled Scientific Operations Specialist to join our team at the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). The successful candidate will play a pivotal operational role in the Materials Research Facility (MRF), enabling research and experimental activities.

The MRF Equipment Scientist will be responsible for the day-to-day running of some scientific equipment, operations, maintenance, and interacting with customers and service engineers. They will work with external collaborators, including universities and overseas research organizations, to deliver equipment integration and experimental work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of scientific equipment
  • Conduct experiments using specialist scientific equipment and utilize scientific equipment to produce samples for further analysis
  • Deliver training to staff and customers on the use of scientific equipment
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of scientific equipment
  • Purchase equipment and consumables up to £10k, providing technical input to procurement projects

Requirements

  • Degree or higher education qualification in a Physical Sciences related field, such as Physics, Materials, Chemistry, etc.
  • Masters or PhD in an appropriate field
  • Demonstrable experience working in an industrial setting, such as a laboratory, or in manufacturing
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment
  • Experience writing documentation, such as risk assessments, method statements, standard operating procedures, etc.
  • Experience installing and commissioning new equipment and/or technique development
