Design Manager Job Description

Edge Careers is seeking a highly experienced Design Manager to join our team in the Southern Water region. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for effectively managing design teams to deliver projects valued between £5m - £50m.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design Team Management: Manage design teams to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and specifications.
  • CDM Regulations: Adhere to CDM regulations as Design Manager and ensure appropriate CDM appointments are in place.
  • Safety and Sustainability: Promote safety, environmental best practice, and sustainability through design.
  • Design Plans and Briefs: Produce design plans and briefs.
  • Contract Management: Manage contracts with external design consultants.
  • Estimation and Project Management: Support Estimators and Project Managers to produce and manage design and budget schedules.
  • Change Control: Implement change control processes to track and manage design development.
  • Design Reviews: Lead internal and external design reviews.
  • Relationship Building: Develop relationships with Regional HSEQ team, Quality and Technical Assurance Manager, Communication team, Design Teams, Engineering Teams, and Regional Site Teams.
  • Supply Chain Selection: Support supply chain selection for specialists' input on design.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders, and design coordinators.
  • Project Liaison: Liaise with Engineering Managers, Project Managers, and consultants concerning project issues, scope changes, risks, etc.
Requirements:
  • Design and Management Experience: Minimum of 5 years design and management experience.
  • BIM and CDE Knowledge: Working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and common data environments.
  • Water and Wastewater Experience: Experience in design management of water and wastewater infrastructure, including pipelines, hydraulics, and MEICA.
  • People and Time Management: People management, time management, and project design management skills.
