Job Summary

Hill Dickinson is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Associate/Legal Director to join our Commercial TMT & IP team in Manchester, Liverpool, or Leeds. As a trusted member of our team, you will provide expert legal advice to clients on non-contentious commercial matters, with a focus on public procurement and subsidy control.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Associate/Legal Director with a strong background in commercial law, particularly in public procurement and subsidy control. You will be responsible for advising clients on compliance issues related to the Subsidy Control Act and providing strategic advice on commercial matters. Your expertise will be essential in helping us grow our resource and service our clients' needs in this area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice to clients on non-contentious commercial matters, with a focus on public procurement and subsidy control.
  • Advise clients on compliance issues related to the Subsidy Control Act.
  • Provide strategic advice on commercial matters, including contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Support the Team Lead in providing non-contentious legal advice on specialist public procurement advisory work for public sector clients.
  • Review process documentation and support public bodies through threatened and actual procurement challenges.
  • Handle an array of commercial supply-chain contracts, distribution terms and conditions, and franchise agreements.
  • Provide regular training and update sessions to clients, prospective clients, and internal colleagues on public procurement and subsidy control matters.

Requirements

  • Law degree (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrates understanding and recognition of associated issues relating to legislation, including the Subsidy Control Act, Public Contracts Regulations, and Procurement Act.
  • Good level of general commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • Solid experience of advising public sector clients in relation to all aspects of the application of relevant public procurement legislation.
  • Driven to create workable solutions for commercial issues in the best interest of clients.
  • Good level of experience of drafting and negotiating documentation.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clients' needs and expectations.
  • Experience of advising clients on public procurement compliance.
  • Excellence in service delivery and quality of services provided through technical and service excellence.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Time management skills showing ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent legal and commercial research skills.
  • Ability to play a proactive part in business development activity individually and collectively.
  • Experience of advising clients on public procurement compliance.
  • Adherence to guidelines and procedures.

Desirable

  • Demonstrates understanding and recognition of associated issues relating to legislation, including Data Protection Compliance, Unfair Terms, and IP Application in practical situations in commercial context.
  • A proven track record of involvement in effective business development activity, including providing legal update and training sessions and producing interesting on-point articles to clients and prospective clients.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships, network, and work collaboratively both internally and externally.
  • Excellence in persuading and influencing.
  • Ability to remain an effective communicator under pressure.
  • Good listening skills and willingness to receive and act on feedback.
  • Experience and drive to mentor and bring on junior talent.
