Job Overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Play Worker to join our Play Team. As a Play Worker, you will play a vital role in enhancing the hospital experience for children and young people, providing high-quality, holistic play opportunities that promote their wellbeing and development.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of child development and be able to use their knowledge to create engaging and meaningful play experiences for children of all ages and abilities. You will work collaboratively with other Play Team members and healthcare professionals to provide a comprehensive and supportive service to children and their families.

Main Responsibilities
  • Organize and facilitate play opportunities for individual and groups of children and young people.
  • Plan and adapt play sessions to meet the needs of each child, being flexible and responsive to their requirements.
  • Assist in creating a safe and welcoming play environment that promotes independence, creativity, and social interaction.
  • Support parents and carers to engage in play with their child, promoting positive relationships and bonding.
  • Develop and maintain a range of play activities that cater to different ages, abilities, and interests.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure that play opportunities are integrated into the child's treatment plan.
  • Maintain accurate records of play activities and outcomes, using data to inform future practice and improve services.
Requirements
  • Relevant qualifications in child care, play work, or a related field (e.g., NVQ, CACHE, NNEB, Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce).
  • Experience of working with children and young people in a play or education setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development and the importance of play in promoting wellbeing and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances, prioritizing the needs of children and families.
