Job Summary:

  • We are seeking a skilled Social Worker to join our team as a Local Authority Officer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for safeguarding and supporting vulnerable individuals, ensuring their rights are protected and their needs are met.
  • You will work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to deliver high-quality services, promoting social change and maximizing independence.
  • As a Social Worker, you will be required to apply professional curiosity, using social work theories and knowledge to formulate and test hypotheses, reaching professional judgments and decisions.
  • You will produce high-quality professional documentation, prioritizing your workload and working within defined timescales.
  • Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to this role, and you will be required to balance the protection of individual rights against the need to use professional authority and accountability effectively.
  • You will uphold the profession and act as a representative of the Local Authority in various forums.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

  • Deliver service activities and manage caseloads to ensure intended outcomes for customers and the Council are delivered within agreed service standards.
  • Identify and implement improvements in own work area in order to deliver continuous service improvement and improved outcomes to customers.
  • Liaise with customers to review service requirements and resolve problems.
  • Keep up to date with changes in policy/legislation/contractual requirements in order to ensure service delivery is effective and complies with appropriate regulations.

Skills/Experience:

  • Demonstrate an effective and active use of supervision for accountability, professional reflection, and development.
  • Demonstrate an ability and understanding of the frameworks, theory, and research applicable to the practice setting.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the legal and policy frameworks and guidance that inform social work practice and safeguard vulnerable service users.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with service users, families, and carers, colleagues, and other professionals, ensuring individual views, opinions, and wishes are explicitly recorded.
  • Have excellent organizational skills and be able to prioritize workload according to risk and need.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as an autonomous professional and produce succinct and clear professional documentation, meeting statutory and local timescales and protocol.
  • Demonstrate skills in sharing information appropriately and respectfully, recognizing lines of accountability and the boundaries of professional autonomy and discretion.
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate practice meeting the required level within social work frameworks, underpinned by the PCF and KSS.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to participate in training and staff development relevant to the role, taking advantage of learning opportunities and applying learning.
  • Have a high degree of competence in the use of IT.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with all the Council and Directorate policies and procedures, implementing and promoting, and ensuring members of staff within the team comply with these standards.

Additional Information:

  • A social work qualification and at least one year's post-qualifying experience in a social work role, meeting the requirements of the social work regulator, with the exception of Newly Qualified Social Workers (ASYE).
  • A current valid UK driving license and the use of a car for work, with valid insurance covering business use where required.
