Job Title: Resuscitation Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Resuscitation Practitioner to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. As a key member of our Resuscitation Service, you will play a vital role in providing expert clinical care during cardiac arrests and emergencies, supporting the resuscitation team, and ensuring adherence to Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Attend cardiac arrests, trauma calls, and medical emergencies within the Trust, and perform as an expert practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and knowledge.
  • Provide clinical support to members of the resuscitation team, ensuring cardiac arrests are run to Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines and conducted safely.
  • Disseminate information to medical and nursing staff about the Trust Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNA-CPR) policy, and assist with post-resuscitative care of patients where necessary.
  • Assist the resuscitation manager in reviewing and updating resuscitation policies, keeping them in line with present Resuscitation Council (UK), European Resuscitation Council, and ILCOR guidelines.
  • Conduct clinical audits on all cardiac arrests, peri-arrest, and false calls within the trust, identifying and notifying any risk management issues that may arise relating to resuscitation procedures or equipment.
Training and Education:
  • Identify staff learning needs and develop training programs to meet these needs for resuscitation training within the Trust.
  • Coordinate and implement a resuscitation training program within the trust, planning, organizing, and implementing nationally recognized training courses offered by the Resuscitation Service.
  • Maintain Continued Professional Development by regular teaching on all relevant courses, and assist the Lead Resuscitation Practitioner with annual reports about training undertaken by the resuscitation service.
Financial and Partnerships:
  • Receive and process payments from candidates for courses offered by the service, as per department policy, and ensure all training equipment is accounted for and kept in a working order.
  • Provide training of basic life support skills to clinical and non-clinical staff, in groups or as individuals depending on the training requirements, and present results of internal audits to medical or nursing groups to impart best practice or influence change in practice where necessary.
Requirements:
  • Advanced clinical competence and knowledge in resuscitation and critical care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with medical and nursing staff.
  • Ability to analyze clinical information and make treatment decisions based on the information, and to analyze candidate information and performance, making judgements about the candidate's competency for the candidate to complete training successfully.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to assist in the daily planning of departmental activities, and to assist in the liaison with corporate nursing, midwifery, and neonatal departments in the planning of training.
