Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Functional Skills Tutor to join our team at HMP Peterborough. As a key member of our education team, you will play a vital role in helping prisoners achieve their functional skills qualification in English.

About the Role

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating activities and courses to support prisoners in achieving their learning goals. You will work closely with prisoners to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and develop personalized learning plans to help them overcome any challenges they may face.

You will also be responsible for monitoring attendance, achievement, and progression, and for challenging any negative behaviors that may impact on learning. Your role will involve working with prisoners who may have undiagnosed learning difficulties or neurodivergence, and who may have lost confidence in their ability to learn.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and deliver high-quality learning programs to support prisoners in achieving their functional skills qualification in English.
  • Work closely with prisoners to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and develop personalized learning plans to help them overcome any challenges they may face.
  • Monitor attendance, achievement, and progression, and challenge any negative behaviors that may impact on learning.
  • Provide support and guidance to prisoners who may have undiagnosed learning difficulties or neurodivergence.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the education team to ensure that prisoners receive a comprehensive and supportive learning experience.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A teaching qualification in the relevant subject area, or experience in a teaching/tutor role.
  • An interest in the rehabilitation of offenders.
  • A flexible and responsive attitude.
  • Willingsness to innovate and demonstrate self-motivation.
  • Be proactive, dynamic, and positive at all times.
