Advanced Pharmacist

We are seeking a highly experienced clinical pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Team at Great Western Hospital as an Advanced Pharmacist (Gastroenterology). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the delivery of transformational change across 3 acute trusts in a provider collaborative.
The Advanced Pharmacist will initially focus on working across BSW Acute Healthcare Alliance to deliver specialty-specific biosimilar switch savings, and will also work towards establishing the role of a Gastroenterology Specialist Pharmacist within the Gastroenterology team at Great Western Hospital.
Main Duties- Act as an advanced Pharmacy practitioner for the gastroenterology specialty, planning care and identifying areas of concern related to medicine use.
- Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients in gastroenterology wards and out-patient areas, in line with clinical pharmacy standards and objectives.
- Fulfil the role of Responsible Pharmacist in the dispensary when registerable activities are taking place, as part of the rota or out of hours.
- Lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to gastroenterology specialty within the Trust, including setting and monitoring quality standards for clinical pharmacy services.
- Introduce, maintain and develop a team and specialty-based model for clinical pharmacy service provision.
- Act as the point of liaison for the specialty and lead on pharmacy-related aspects of the development of services, medicines introduction, horizon scanning and specialist information provision.
- Regularly meet with the Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager and Medicines Effectiveness team to develop a strategic plan for clinical pharmacy services.
- Provide the Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager and Medicines effectiveness lead with details of output, performance and activity of the clinical pharmacy service within gastroenterology specialty at specified time intervals.
- Actively participate in trust-wide medicines assurance, governance and specialty meetings to promote the safe effective use of medicines and the role of Pharmacy in medicines optimisation.
- Prepare business cases to support clinical Pharmacy service developments within the specialty.
- Collaborate in the development of Integrated Care Pathways, clinical guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, Patient Group Directions and any other required policies within the specialty and Pharmacy department.
- M Pharm Degree or equivalent / General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration
- Postgraduate diploma (Diploma or MSc) in clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy or similar
- Keeping professionally up to date including CPD
- Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
- Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
- Highly experienced as a qualified pharmacist
- Experience working across departmental and organizational boundaries
- Knowledge of financial systems and structures
- Experience in Gastroenterology
- Previous experience as a specialist pharmacist
- Experience of service development
- Good communication, verbal and written e.g. SOPs
- Presentation skills - teaching and report writing
- Use of financial systems to generate reports
- Good clinical knowledge backed up by extensive ward-based experience
- Able to prioritize workload and delegate and manage time effectively
- Use of databases to collate information
