A SEN Teaching Assistant Position in Southend-on-Sea
We are recruiting an experienced and dedicated SEN teaching assistant to join our team at Academics Ltd in Southend-on-Sea.
Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Southend-on-Sea
Salary: £22,000 - £26,000 per annum, dependent on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, Mornings Only (Approx. 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM)
About the Role:
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled SEN teaching assistant to support a non-verbal child with autism in a local school setting. You will be responsible for assisting with communication, emotional regulation, and engagement in classroom activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support a child with non-verbal autism in the classroom on a one-to-one basis.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual learning plans.
- Support with communication strategies and help the child engage in learning activities.
- Promote the child's social, emotional, and personal development.
- Work alongside the class teacher to ensure the child's needs are met.
- Encourage independence and assist with personal care as required.
- Build positive relationships with the child, their family, and the school team.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children with autism and special educational needs.
- Understanding of non-verbal communication techniques (e.g., Makaton, PECS, etc.) is beneficial.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with SEND.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.
- Experience in a classroom environment is essential.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent) are desirable.
