  • Hours per week: 37.5
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm
  • Salary: £25,147 to £27,596 per annum (Agenda for Change Band 4)
  • Contract Type: Permanent

Job Summary

As a Mental Health Coach, you will work within a multidisciplinary mental health team, providing coaching and support to individuals with mental health needs. You will deliver IAPT Step 1 interventions, offering informal support, signposting, and facilitating group activities to promote mental health awareness. You will work closely with the prison's Mental Health Team (MHT), delivering wellbeing and distraction materials, drop-ins, and group supervision to promote mental health and overall wellbeing among service users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Work within the mental health team to support service users during their time in prison, ensuring a joined-up approach to care.
  • Coaching Role: Provide tailored mental health coaching to individuals needing intervention, assisting them in the self-management of their mental health and recovery.
  • Wellbeing Promotion: Raise awareness of mental health services within the prison, offering drop-ins, distributing wellbeing and distraction materials, and organising group activities to support wellbeing.
  • Group Facilitation: Organise and facilitate group workshops, wellbeing sessions, and service user forums, ensuring engagement in mental health and recovery activities.
  • Peer Mentor Training: Support the development and training of Peer Mentors to assist other residents with their mental health needs.
  • Holistic Support: Work alongside other services such as substance misuse teams and reconnect services to ensure comprehensive care and support for individuals, particularly around release planning.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate clinical records and data on Rethink and Prison systems.
  • Risk Management: Contribute to the identification and reduction of risks, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to safeguard individuals.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with individuals with mental health needs in both one-to-one and group settings.
  • Strong group facilitation, coaching, and rapport-building skills.
  • Experience coordinating and developing projects or activities.
  • Relevant training or qualifications, such as Recovery Training, Coaching, or Peer Support Worker.
  • Working knowledge of mental health and the ability to recognise deteriorating mental health.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office and database/information systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and independently when required.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in a prison environment or with offenders.
  • Mental Health First Aid Practitioner or other relevant health education qualifications.
  • Experience in co-production or peer support programmes.
