Job Description

As a Phonics Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students develop essential reading and writing skills. Working closely with class teachers, you will provide targeted support to ensure students grasp key phonics concepts and progress confidently through their early literacy journey.

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students develop phonics skills, including sound recognition, blending, and segmenting.
  • Assist teachers in delivering structured and engaging phonics lessons.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress in phonics, offering feedback and adjusting support strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Create a positive and encouraging learning environment that fosters confidence and enthusiasm for reading and writing.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to ensure consistent and integrated phonics instruction across the curriculum.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with children, ideally within an educational setting.
  • A solid understanding of phonics and early literacy development.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young learners.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards helping children succeed.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in education, teaching assistance, or early childhood development are desirable.
