This is a senior leadership role within the Aboriginal Engagement, Planning and Lands Branch. The successful candidate will lead the Aboriginal Engagement and Heritage Unit (AEHU), establishing priorities, targets, and works programs to achieve unit objectives.

Job Description

The Senior Aboriginal Engagement and Cultural Heritage Coordinator will be responsible for providing leadership and advice on the development, implementation, and review of projects to meet the department's initiatives and responsibilities under whole-of-government Aboriginal strategies and programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic guidance on the development and implementation of policies and guidelines relating to Aboriginal culture and heritage, and engagement with Aboriginal people.
  • Coordinate the development of cultural competency and capacity through the development and implementation of a suite of programs, training, and resources, including delivery where required.
Selection Criteria

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of cross-cultural issues and the ability to work effectively with government and Aboriginal organisations.
  • The capacity to interpret legislation and develop policies and guidelines relating to Aboriginal culture and heritage, and engagement with Aboriginal people.
  • High-level interpersonal skills, with extensive experience in communicating, liaising, and negotiating complex issues at a range of levels.
  • A proven ability to lead and manage a professional team, including the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary projects, prepare and monitor works programs, budgets, and timeframes to achieve objectives within designated timeframes.

The estimated annual salary for this position is AU$134,500, based on a permanent, full-time appointment in Kensington, Western Australia.
