About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Rules Developer to join our Commercial - Underwriting and Claims team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining underwriting rules to reflect our underwriting philosophy across various platforms.

Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing electronic underwriting solutions that balance competitive underwriting with robust risk assessment. You will work closely with our team to identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions to enhance our underwriting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop underwriting rules to reflect our underwriting philosophy.
  • Maintain and enhance Royal London's underwriting rules to reflect changes in underwriting guidelines and reinsurance policy.
  • Responsible for the full life cycle of rules development from input, quality assurance, test, and release to production.
  • Develop underwriting rules to support new propositions as required.

About You

  • Proven experience in rules development on an underwriting engine, ideally UnderwriteMe, but also consider applicants with experience developing on SSG, AURA, or MAGNUM.
  • Experienced Life and Disability underwriter with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in cleansing, summarizing, and analyzing data using Excel or other packages.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in a project environment.
  • Proficient working knowledge of data gathering or data analysis tools and techniques, such as Yellowfin, Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • A relevant professional industry qualification (ACII, DLDU).
