Job Summary:

The Assistant Private Secretary (APS) reports to the ARTIS Executive Director (ED), who in turn reports to the Bank of England's Governor. Together with the ED's Personal Assistant, the APS comprises the ED's Private Office. The APS supports the ED in delivering their responsibilities, forming an integral part of the directorate's leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Executive Director and Private Secretary across a broad range of issues.
  • Helping to run a busy Private Office and deal with the wide range of issues that arise, supporting the Private Secretary and/or ED on key judgements.
  • Responsibility for individual pieces of work as delegated by the ED and/or Private Secretary, and co-ordinating delivery of key pieces of work across the Directorate.
  • Ensuring that key issues are escalated to ED and/or cascaded to the wider Directorate in a clear and timely manner.
  • Coordinating and drafting briefings for the ED.
  • Maintaining a clear understanding of the forward agenda and anticipating future briefings which will be required by the ED.
  • Maintaining clear and accurate records of meetings attended alongside the ED.
  • Preparing the ED for internal and external meetings and speaking events, contributing to the drafting of speaking remarks and presentations.
  • Communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the Governor's office, other ED offices, COOs, and wider Bank staff to ensure that the Directorate is fully engaged with other parts of the Bank.
  • Coordinating the directorate's input and interaction with key committees, including the Prudential Regulation Committee (PRC) ensuring high quality and consistency.
  • Advising on agenda items for SMT meetings, and working with the ED PA to ensure SMT meetings run smoothly and that actions are followed up.
  • Lead on planning for directorate wide events such as the quarterly auditoriums and annual away-day.

Desirable Criteria:

  • An understanding of the Bank's supervisory approach and the Bank's governance structures.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • An interest in data and technology.
