Job Overview

This role involves providing clinical leadership to one of the South-West Community Mental Health Teams, offering diagnostic assessments and treatment to individuals with severe, complex, and high-risk psychiatric conditions.

South-West Community Mental Health Teams cover two borough localities in South West Hertfordshire - Watford and Three Rivers. The team based at Colne House in Watford serves a population of around 200,000, while the team at Civic Offices in Borehamwood covers Hertsmere borough locality with a population of approximately 100,000.

We have been successful in acquiring tenders for the provision of specialist Learning disability services in Norfolk, North Essex, and Buckinghamshire. Our Trust covers a mix of rural and urban areas, including the City of St Albans, large towns like Watford and Welwyn Garden City, and smaller towns such as Hemel Hempstead, Radlett, Berkhamsted, Harpenden, Hertford, Ware, Bishops Stortford, Hitchin, and Letchworth.

Key Responsibilities
  • To manage junior medical staff, appraise their performance, and provide professional supervision, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that junior medical staff operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are compliant with the Working Time Directive.
  • To participate in service and business planning activities for the locality and, as necessary, for the entire mental health service.
  • To attend and participate in academic programs, lectures, and seminars as part of the internal CPD program.
  • To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, obtain Section 12(2) approval, and adhere to professional codes of conduct.
  • To annually review job plans with the clinical manager, taking into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernization.
  • To work closely with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient service operation and share best practices with consultant colleagues on medical contributions to management.
Requirements
  • An MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • A full valid driving license (unless disabled as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspectives and broad medical knowledge.
  • Expertise in at least one primary form of psychotherapy alongside familiarity with others.
  • Experience working with individuals requiring care through secondary mental health services, including those with personality disorders and complex needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in a range of psychological therapies.
