Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Band 6 Assistant Service Manager - Cancer Performance. The successful candidate will play a key role in the operational management of our cancer service, working closely with the Service Manager and Ops Managers to ensure the delivery of high-quality cancer care.

Main Responsibilities
  1. To work collaboratively with the Operational Managers, Lead Cancer Clinicians, and Cancer MDT Service Manager to drive continuous improvement of our comprehensive cancer MDT service.
  2. To lead and manage the Cancer Service MDT Coordinator Team, comprising of MDT Coordinators, MDT Trackers, and MDT Assistants.
  3. To support the development of policies for the Trust-wide collection of patient data and information, including the Cancer Tracking policy and Two-Week Wait policy.
  4. To contribute to Service Improvement initiatives, ensuring that they are undertaken from a patient journey perspective.
  5. To ensure the effective development, functioning, and review of Trust Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings (MDTs).
  6. To establish effective communication links with all service providers and commissioners to ensure the development and agreement of referral guidelines, protocols, and pathways.
  7. To ensure the effective measurement and monitoring of cancer data collection, targets, and outcomes through the development and use of consistent definitions, data collection systems, and audit systems.
  8. To participate in the effective development of the cancer services Multidisciplinary team to ensure they play a central role in achieving the NHS Cancer plan in respect of treatment and data quality.
Requirements
  • NHS or other healthcare leadership training.
  • AMPSAR Medical terminology Certificate, or working towards Certificate.
Skills and Experience
  • Understanding of the concept of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and MDT meeting in the context of cancer pathways.
  • Experience of working effectively in a team.
  • Knowledge of NHS cancer pathways.
  • Knowledge of clinical terminology relating to cancer.
  • Experience in an administrative role within the NHS.
  • Experience of maintaining a cancer registry system.
  • Experience of using electronic patient record.
  • Supervisory or line management experience.
  • Experience of collecting, analysing, and presenting complex data to inform service improvements.

The salary for this role is £42,939 to £50,697 per annum, inclusive of HCAS.
