GCHQ, the UK's intelligence, cyber and security agency, is seeking a skilled Assistant Media Officer to join its National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) external communications team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering impactful and creative communications that inform audiences about the NCSC's priorities, actionable advice, and shape the public conversation.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team across the press office and social media functions to assist in the delivery of proactive announcements and handling of emerging stories and queries from the media.

The role involves identifying and shaping high-profile and meaningful news stories to help make the UK the safest place to live and work online.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting communications products, including press releases, social media posts, and reactive statements
  • Working closely with counterparts across the organisation and Whitehall to maximise the effectiveness and manage risks of communications
  • Assisting in the development of plans for communicating the NCSC's priorities, products, and advice

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the news agenda and the ability to spot stories and emerging issues of interest to the organisation.

Prior experience in journalism, public relations, or government communications would be advantageous, but not essential.
