Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team in Accrington. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting primary-aged children with SEMH needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop social and emotional skills, and thrive in a positive, nurturing school environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with SEMH needs, both in and outside of the classroom.
  2. Work closely with the school's SENCO and other staff to develop and implement IEPs and BSPs.
  3. Help manage behaviour effectively, using de-escalation techniques and restorative practices.
  4. Monitor student progress and report on their emotional, social, and academic development.
  5. Assist in creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued and supported.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of working with children, preferably in a primary school setting, supporting children with SEMH or additional needs.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children.
  • A good understanding of child development and the impact of SEMH on learning and behaviour.
  • A proactive, flexible, and team-oriented attitude.
