About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Architect to join our team at Barclays Bank UK PLC. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing solutions to complex business problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop solutions that meet business requirements, aligning with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling.
  • Identify and implement technologies and platforms that drive consistency and efficiency.
  • Apply workload placement strategies to maximize the benefit of cloud capabilities, such as elasticity, serverless, and containerization.
  • Design solutions that incorporate security principles, meeting the Bank's resiliency expectations.
  • Balance risks and controls to deliver business and technology value.
  • Adopt standardized solutions where applicable, and contribute to their ongoing evolution.
  • Provide fault finding and performance issues support to operational support teams.
  • Assess the impact of solution design on risk, capacity, and cost, including estimation of project change and ongoing run costs.
  • Develop architecture inputs required to comply with the Bank's governance processes.
Vice President Expectations
  • Advise key stakeholders on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organization's functions to contribute to achieving business goals.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work to keep up to speed with business activity and strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Seek out, build, and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Strong experience in delivery methodologies and organizational structures.
  • Background in complex delivery, operations, and product engineering.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Communication skills focused on both technical and business language.
  • Ability to measure the value of different approaches to technical problems.
  • Job-specific technical skills.
  • Additional experience in architectural roles with broad applicability across financial services.
  • Experience in managing technical engagements to design and deliver positive outcomes in complex systems engineering.
  • Experience in AWS, AI/ML, or payments is highly valued.
