Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Nurse/Physiotherapist to join our team at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide specialist respiratory assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care to patients with undiagnosed respiratory disease and acute on chronic respiratory disease presentations.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires working with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care to patients. The successful candidate will have a strong background in respiratory care and experience working in a hospital setting. They will be responsible for assessing patients, developing treatment plans, and providing education and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist respiratory assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care to patients with undiagnosed respiratory disease and acute on chronic respiratory disease presentations.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care to patients.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that meet the individual needs of patients.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of respiratory care policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy/nursing.
  • HCPC/NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continued professional development, including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field.
  • Masters degree or evidence of working at an equivalent level.
  • Recognised postgraduate qualification, e.g. MSc in Respiratory Care.
  • Leadership training.
  • Membership of Special Interest Group: ACPRC/BTS.
  • Clinical assessment skills.
  • Non-medical prescriber.
  • ARTP Spirometry Certificate.
  • Level 2 smoking cessation certificate.
Experience
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit.
  • Minimum of 3 years' NHS experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience with at least 2 years in specialist respiratory care, including respiratory outpatients, ITU, and medical wards.
  • Broad range of experience at B5 and B6 level.
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of respiratory patients demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Experience of managing other staff.
  • Experience of teaching in a clinical setting.
  • Experience of student supervision/clinical education.
  • Experience of MDT working.
  • Ability to run courses - internal/external.
  • Supervision of other staff, e.g. HCA/physiotherapy assistant/technical instructor.
  • Committee membership, e.g. Health & Safety.
Knowledge
  • Awareness of national and local policies and their application to respiratory disease and population health needs.
  • Awareness of skill mix and service needs.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and the implications for physiotherapy services, including experience of quality issues and audit.
  • Remains updated on professional practice and new research.
Other
  • Physically fit and able to comply with Trust Manual Handling Guidelines.
  • Ability to work flexible working patterns, including working extended hours, unsociable hours, and weekend working.
