About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthesia Consultant to join our team at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage high-risk patients and provide evidence-based anaesthetic care.
  • Develop and implement clinical governance policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective anaesthetic practice.
  • Lead and manage a team of anaesthetic staff, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in audit and quality improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of patient care.

Person Specification

  • Experience in managing high-risk patients and providing evidence-based anaesthetic care.
  • Higher training or equivalent in obstetric anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, and anaesthesia for airway surgery.
  • Leadership skills and ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Knowledge of finance and budgeting, and ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • IT skills and computer literacy.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of specialist training programme in anaesthesia or equivalent (CCT/CESR).
  • FRCA or equivalent qualification.
  • SIA (Special Interest Area) or equivalent Fellowship or equivalent proven capabilities in relevant area of expertise.

Registration

  • Candidate should be on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia (CCT/CESR) or, if UK trainee, within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.

Teaching and Education

  • Stage 3 or equivalent level of training in Education and Training.
  • Experience in teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff.

Desirable Criteria

  • Formal teaching/training related qualifications or accreditation.
  • Management qualification or current study towards management qualification.
  • NHS experience within the last 3 years.
  • Experience as a Locum Consultant at an acute hospital.
  • Experience in acute management of critically ill children.
  • Evidence of service audit, design, or change management.
  • SIA/fellowship in perioperative medicine, Prehabilitation, CPET qualification.
